From Chapter 8: “The lessons of the Tongue”
God led Gideon and his men to the water to call out a band of warriors. He knew that the power and the victory was His and His alone, so His one and only priority was to “pick a team” who would be completely obedient to His will. It appears as we read today’s news that the influence of the enemy and the fulfilment of his all-consuming desire to kill, steal and destroy is increasing daily. As financial bastions crumble, the Church will increasingly need supernatural guidance to be able to find the funding that will finance end-time revival – and that could well include being told supernaturally “which stocks to pick” – after all, they are all His anyway. One day systems will fail and medicines will run out, and when that day comes people will come to Jesus for healing. When darkness increasingly covers the earth, the Church will need to depend more and more on the “pillar of cloud by day and the fire by night” to keep “shining like stars in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation as we hold out the word of life” (see Phil. 2:15-16). We seek not the gift, but the Gift Giver. If we honour and value the presence and person of the Holy Spirit within us and within each other, if we continually seek to fellowship with Him, we will only have one agenda: the glory and the Kingdom of God. We need to keep on dipping our tongues in the living water of the Holy Spirit, constantly replenishing our supply as we keep ourselves close to the stream.
